Description
In summer, this is a deep bluish-green, much-branched spiny shrub without leaves. The spines are large, stout, straight and lateral. In autumn, the leaves appear. In winter it flowers profusely.
Grows on dry rocky ground inland as well as on the coast where it forms a thick impenetrable jungle.
Flowers
The densely packed flowers are single or in small clusters.
Leaves
Trifoliate with three leaflets. Three leaflets, each leaflet is oval-shaped, 15 mm long.
Fruits Seeds
Pod, narrow-oblong, 26-30 mm long.
Medical
Leaves and fruit: both have astringent properties.
