Sunny, dry banks, roadsides, lightly wooded areas.

Flowers

Tubular white flowers spotted with purple, in whorls around the stem.

Leaves

Ovate leaf is egg-shaped, wider at base. Oval, minutely serrated, greyish-green, stalked; 1 cm long, covered in white down. When rubbed, the leaves release a strong minty smell.

Fruits Seeds

Nuts: 1-4, small, enclosed within the calyx.

Medical

Dried flowering parts: relief for indigestion, a tonic for the nerves.
