Description

Common Box is an evergreen shrub or small tree. The wood is very hard and used in printing blocks, tool handles and mallet heads.
The leaves are rich in nitrogen and in former times were used by farmers to enrich the soil.
Very hardy. Used in hedging.

Flowers

The flowers are inconspicuous, greenish-yellow, in small clusters of 5-7 mm.

Elliptic oval leaf. Oval, opposite on the stem, shiny, convex margins, 15-30 mm long.

Fruits Seeds

Capsule: 3-lobed with 3 small horns, 6-7 mm long.

Medical

Leaves, bark and wood: were used to lower fever and destroy intestinal parasites.
