Description
A Mediterranean native, seeds itself on waste land and road sides.
Leaves
Linear narrow blade leaf, like grass. Blade like, pointed, curving inwards, prominent central vein, up to 30 cm long, 10 mm wide.
Fruits Seeds
Caryopsis: a dry fruit containing the grain.
Edible
Seeds: when ripe can be cooked, used in porridge or ground into flour or roasted as a coffee substitute.
The sprouted seeds can be part of a mixed salad.
