Description
Acutifolia means ‘thorny leaves’, referring to the characteristic shape of the leaf. The stems are much branched with feathery, stiff foliage. In early spring the asparagus shoots appear.

The flowers are small, bell-shaped, whitish-green.
Leaves
Cladode flower grows from a leaf-like stem. A cladode is a modified stem, needle-like in this instance.

Pod: resembling a berry containing seeds, initially green, eventually black.
