Description

The stems are smooth, numerous, slightly shiny.

Flowers

The inflorescence is 10-30 cm long, whitish or purplish. The splikelets, the flowering part of the grass, are shiny, each with 2 florets, ochre coloured, and a long straight awn. The ligule (a thin outgrowth at the junction of leaf and leafstalk of many grasses and sedges) is blunt.

Leaves

Linear narrow blade leaf, like grass. Very narrow, mid-green.
