Description

The stem is triangular.

Damp hedgerows, ditches, woodland.

Flowers

The flower stalk ends in a cluster of 4-15 bell-shaped flowers in a one-sided umbel. Each petal has a very noticeable green line in the centre.

Leaves

Linear narrow blade leaf, like grass. Broadly linear, long and narrow, tapered with a sharp raised central vein.

Fruits Seeds

Capsule: 3 parted, many seeds.

Edible

Leaves, flowers and bulbs have a garlic flavour, containing sulphur compounds.

Medical

All Alliums contain iron and vitamins and are slightly antibiotic.
