Description

It grows on alkaline soils, on rocky hillsides and meadows.

Flowers

The inflorescence is surrounded by 2 long lasting bracts of different lengths. Each bell-shaped flower, on a long stalk, has 6 tepals and 6 stamens and are often pendant. The flower colour varies from light violet pink to greenish brown. In the centre of the flowers are the dark, tapered bulbils.

Leaves

Linear narrow blade leaf, like grass. Broadly linear.

Capsule: splits open on 2 or more seams.

Flowers, young leaves and bulb.

Medical

All Alliums contain iron and vitamins and are slightly antibiotic.
