Description

The name ‘Black Garlic’ is derived from the colour of its ovaries.

Flowers

Flowers are white or very pale lilac, 6 tepals to each flower with a green midvein and a dark, blackish, green ovary. The umbels are 10 cm across.

Leaves

Linear narrow blade leaf, like grass. 3-6 basal leaves, broadly linear, bending downwards, tapering to a pointed apex, 60 cm long, 2.5 cm wide.

Fruits Seeds

Capsule: 8 mm long.

Medical

All Alliums contain iron and vitamins and are slightly antibiotic.
