Description

Deciduous, native to much of Europe. The wood is white, hard and strong. Although not much used, it is suitable for furniture, flooring, wood turning and musical instruments.

Flowers

The flowers are greenish-yellow in clusters of 10, each cluster 3-9 cm long.

Leaves

Palmate leaf has lobes radiating from a base point. Five blunt, rounded lobes, the midrib of the lobes radiate from a base point. The leaves are 4-8 cm long, 5-10 cm wide and ooze a milky sap. They turn yellow to red in autumn.

Fruits Seeds

Samaras: a cluster of 2-winged nuts aligned at 180º.
